Pick the split by where the image will appear.

Instagram splitting is not only a crop problem. The same image can become a profile grid, a swipeable carousel, or a small row of tiles depending on the posting goal.

  • Profile grid

Use 3 x 3 or 3 x 4 when the final image should appear across your profile posts.

  • Carousel

    Use 1 x 3 or 1 x 4 when users should swipe through a seamless image.

  • Custom campaign

Use custom rows and columns for launch visuals, puzzle feeds, and brand grids.

Start with a canvas size that matches the final grid.

Design the full image first in Canva, Figma, Photoshop, or another editor, then split it into post-sized tiles. Square grids use 1080 x 1080 px tiles; portrait grids use 900 x 1200 px tiles in this tool.

Canva or Figma setup

Create one full canvas, export it as PNG or JPG, then upload it here. For a 3 x 3 grid, start with 3240 x 3240 px.

Posting order

Instagram profile grids need the bottom-right tile posted first. The ZIP filenames put that tile at 01.

TikTok banner workflow

For TikTok profile banners, use a wide 3 x 1 or 3 x 2 split and check the preview before posting.

Prevent the common posting-order mistake.

Instagram places newer posts before older posts, so the visual order and upload order are different for profile grids.

  • Use the numbered ZIP filenames instead of guessing from the preview.
  • Post tile 01 first for profile grids.
  • Download a preview before uploading all tiles.
  • Use square tiles for classic grids and portrait tiles for taller profile layouts.
  • Keep text, faces, and logos away from tile boundaries when designing the full canvas.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best split for an Instagram profile grid?

Use 3 x 3 for a classic square grid and 3 x 4 portrait when you want a taller modern profile layout.

Does the ZIP include posting order?

Yes. Instagram mode numbers the files from the first tile to post toward the final top-left tile.

Can I make a carousel instead?

Yes. Use the carousel page or set one row with multiple columns in this splitter.

Are images uploaded to a server?

No. The split happens locally in your browser.

Should I use crop or fit?

Use Crop for a full-bleed Instagram look and Fit when no part of the design can be cut off.
